Training Educators for a Violence-Free Future in Uvira and the Ruzizi Plain

By SCA News Teacher Training & Safeguarding

The classroom should be a place of inspiration, not fear. To ensure this reality for every child in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Child Abuse in Congo (C.A.C), in partnership with the Wilde Ganzen Foundation, successfully conducted a specialized training seminar for educators in the Uvira territory and the Ruzizi Plain.

Gathered at the Salle Polyvalente de Luvungi, teachers and community stakeholders engaged in a two-day intensive workshop focused on the theme: "Ensemble luttons contre les violences à l’école" (Together, let's fight against violence in school).

The seminar addressed critical issues, including:

  • Identifying and preventing physical and psychological violence within the school system.
  • Implementing positive discipline techniques that respect child dignity.
  • Strengthening the role of teachers as primary protectors and advocates for child rights.
  • Developing clear reporting and response protocols for cases of abuse.

By equipping educators with these essential tools, we are moving beyond simple awareness and into the realm of systemic change. When teachers are trained in non-violence, they don't just teach lessons—they model the respectful, peaceful society we wish to build.

The enthusiasm of the participants in Luvungi reflects a growing community-wide commitment to safeguarding our children. As we continue to expand these training sessions across the region, we remain dedicated to the goal of making every school in the DRC a truly safe space for every student.
