Shaping the Future of Child Protection: SCA at the 2026 K-CID Annual Collaborative Reflections

By SCA News Child Protection Advocacy

Collaborating for Systemic Change

Reflecting on progress, sharing vital lessons, and aligning on future priorities are essential steps in creating sustainable impact for displaced children. Stop Child Abuse (SCA) was honored to participate in the 2026 K-CID Annual Collaborative Reflections, held from September 22nd to September 24th, 2026, at the Cradle Akai Eco Lodge in Kakuma.

Brought together by Porticus and Triple Line, the three-day convening served as a vital platform for grantee partners, stakeholders, and community actors to review what has changed, examine how change is happening, and agree on strategic priorities for the next phase of implementation.

A Structured Journey of Reflection and Validation

The workshop was designed around a comprehensive, multi-day agenda focused on evaluation, learning, and forward planning:

  • Day 1 (Impact Exhibition): Focused on collective learning and validation. Participants reviewed and discussed submitted Signals of Change, evaluated progress against program rubrics and Country Strategy goals, and analyzed how systemic child protection objectives are being met.
  • Day 2 (How Change Happens & Theory of Change): Explored what has enabled or constrained progress over the past year. Partner presentations examined successes and challenges in shifting mindsets, transforming power dynamics, and adopting Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) tools.
  • Day 3 (Learning, Advocacy, and Forward Planning): Focused on consolidating learning, reviewing learning questions, and aligning on thematic advocacy priorities ranging from education systems and inclusion to community leadership.

SCA’s Voice in Shifting Mindsets

During the Day 2 partner reflection sessions, Stop Child Abuse (SCA) contributed insights on what works and what needs adaptation when shifting community mindsets around child protection and positive parenting.

As a refugee-led organization, sharing our grassroots experiences helps ensure that broader programmatic strategies remain deeply anchored in the daily realities of families living in Kakuma and Kalobeyei.

The convening also emphasized strengthening collaboration among partners, with dedicated sessions exploring how to make the participation of Refugee-Led Organizations (RLOs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) even more meaningful.

Looking Ahead Together

The 2026 K-CID convening concluded with a renewed commitment to collective action, refined learning questions, and strengthened advocacy roadmaps.

SCA extends its deepest appreciation to Porticus, Triple Line, Cohere, UNHCR, FilmAid, and all fellow partners for fostering an environment of transparent reflection and shared purpose.

Together, through robust collaboration and community-driven leadership, we continue to build a safer, more resilient future for every child.
