Empowering Caregivers to Protect Futures At Stop Child Abuse (SCA), our philosophy is deeply rooted in the understanding that the best way to protect a child is to support their caregiver.
We are thrilled to share the success of our recent intensive Group Problem Management Plus (Group PM+) and Child Protection workshop, designed specifically for refugee and host community parents and caregivers across Kakuma and Kalobeyei.
A Holistic Approach to Safeguarding Caregivers in displacement settings face unimaginable daily pressures.
To ensure they can provide safe, nurturing environments for their children, this workshop focused on three critical areas of intervention:
- Stress Management (Group PM+): Caregivers were trained in Group Problem Management Plus, an evidence-based psychological intervention.
- They learned practical skills to effectively manage the extreme stress, anxiety, and critical conditions they face daily, fundamentally building their mental resilience.
- Child Protection: We focused on ensuring a safe environment at home by equipping parents with practical strategies, heightened awareness, and actionable tools to safeguard their children from harm and exploitation.
- GBV Awareness & Empowerment: Dedicated sessions empowered women to identify, respond to, and prevent Gender-Based Violence (GBV). These critical dialogues focused on advocating for women's dignity, bodily autonomy, and safety within the broader community.
The Ripple Effect of Support The dedication, openness, and commitment shown by our parents and caregivers throughout these sessions were truly inspiring. By intentionally strengthening their mental well-being and coping mechanisms, we are directly building stronger, safer, and more nurturing homes for the children they care for.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our amazing facilitators and to all the parents who showed up to invest in themselves and their children's futures. The ripple effect of this training will change lives and build a more resilient community.
