Safety Begins at Home
A child’s safety does not begin at school, nor does it begin in public spaces. It begins at home.
Recently, we asked our caregivers and parents at Stop Child Abuse (SCA) a critical question: What happens when a parent knows how to listen before judging, recognize early signs of abuse, and deeply support a child’s emotions?
The answer is simple but profound: Something fundamental changes.
Empowering Through Practical Knowledge Through our targeted community engagement sessions, SCA is actively empowering caregivers and parents with practical, life-saving knowledge. By integrating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness, and Child Protection strategies, we are shifting the focus from reaction to prevention.
We are intentionally creating safe, non-judgmental spaces where parents can learn how to:
- Understand and actively support children’s complex emotions and shifting behaviors.
- Communicate openly with children without instilling fear or relying on harsh judgment.
- Recognize the subtle signs of child abuse and domestic violence to stop it early.
- Identify systemic risks and safely respond to GBV and child protection concerns.
- Build safer, more supportive households where children feel secure enough to thrive.
Prevention Over Reaction: Protecting children is not only about responding after harm has occurred.
It is about equipping families with the emotional and practical tools to prevent harm before it ever happens.
At SCA, our philosophy is clear: empowered caregivers create safer families, and safer families build stronger, more resilient communities. This is exactly what refugee-led community action looks like in practice. Knowledge is shared locally, parents are empowered sustainably, and children are protected fiercely.
