STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS FOR SUSTAINABLE WATER ACCESS, COMMUNITY RESILIENCE AND CHILD WELL-BEING IN TURKANA COUNTY!
It was an honour to attend the official launch and handover ceremony of the BH5-Water Mission Project on 5 November 2026, following an invitation from Plan International Kenya.
Developed under the CP WASH Consortium, funded by Danida, and implemented by Water Mission and Plan International in partnership with the County Government of Turkana, this initiative represents an important milestone in strengthening access to safe and reliable water for communities.
H.E. Hon. Dr. John Erus, PhD, Deputy Governor of Turkana County, officially commissioned the project, with the participation and support of key stakeholders, including UNHCR and Peace Winds.
Beyond attending the ceremony, I valued the opportunity to engage directly with government representatives and other development stakeholders. During these conversations, I had the opportunity to introduce and present the work of Stop Child Abuse (SCA), highlighting our community-led initiatives in child rights promotion, child protection, community empowerment, advocacy, and humanitarian development within Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kalobeyei, and the surrounding host communities.
I also shared our interest in exploring practical avenues for collaboration with government institutions, humanitarian agencies, development partners, and other stakeholders to strengthen locally led solutions that respond to the realities and priorities of displaced and host communities.
At SCA, we strongly believe that access to safe water is not just a development priority; it is also connected to child protection, public health, dignity, education, and the overall well-being of families.
As a refugee-led community organization, we believe that meaningful partnerships must recognize the capacity of local organizations and provide opportunities for refugees and host communities to actively participate in designing, implementing, and sustaining development initiatives.
Our message is simple: Local communities should not only benefit from development programmes; they should also be recognized as partners in delivering sustainable solutions.
We look forward to strengthening the connections established during this engagement and exploring opportunities for meaningful collaboration.
I appreciate Plan International Kenya, Water Mission, Danida, the County Government of Turkana, UNHCR, Peace Winds, and all stakeholders contributing to this important initiative.
