In the heart of Uvira, Democratic Republic of the Congo, education is a lifeline. However, for a child to truly learn and thrive, the classroom must first and foremost be a sanctuary of safety.
Recently, our dedicated teams took to classrooms across Uvira to launch a comprehensive child protection and rights awareness campaign. Partnering with local educators and supported by the Wilde Ganzen Foundation, we are engaging directly with students in the spaces where they learn and grow every day.
Drawing on over a decade of operational experience in community-led child protection, we understand that empowering a child with knowledge is the ultimate first line of defense. These interactive classroom sessions focus on teaching children how to identify unsafe situations, understand their fundamental rights, and, crucially, how to access safe reporting mechanisms if they or their peers are ever at risk.
The sight of our community advocates standing before a classroom of eager, attentive students is a powerful reminder of why this work matters. These children are not just students; they are the future leaders and protectors of their communities. By integrating safeguarding education into their daily environment, we are actively dismantling the silence that often surrounds abuse.
We are building a culture of resilience and a zero-tolerance policy for violence from the ground up. Together with our global and local partners, we remain unwavering in our commitment to ensuring that every child can pursue their dreams and education completely free from fear.
